Student journalism has a lot to offer - not just to students, as some rags seem to think, but for any reader and thinker, whoever and wherever he or she may be.
But the big difficulty is staff turnover. Most undergraduates are resident in Oxford for only 72 weeks over three years, and so the quality of their journalistic output is liable to suffer.
That is why the Forum is very keen to recruit sprightly freshers - or indeed not-so-sprightly graduates. Anyone is welcome to join our team. We are looking for:
- Photographers and cartoonists/illustrators
- Sub-editors to make sure that submitted articles conform to our style guide
- Page-layers - playing around with articles and photos on the screen can actually be quite fun, even for the computer illiterate. We use InDesign. Prior competence is preferred, but by no means essential
- Business executives to pitch the Forum to prospective advertisers and arrange other sources of financial support
- Techies for the website
- Contributors - without whom this magazine wouldn't exist.
Most of all, we welcome people with ideas. What do you think would make a good section for the next issue? Who should we contact to talk about it? If you can answer any of these questions, or if you are interested in any of the above roles, get in touch at: editor@theoxfordforum.com.
